Flourishing Chilli Crab

Unsatisfied with her florist's arrangements a day before her wedding, Ching took matters into her own hands and unexpectedly discovered a natural talent for them.

She founded Triceratops in 2013, and hasn't looked back. Watch her retell the creation of Singapore's iconic Chilli Crab dish in an eye-catching floral arrangement.

Lucky Rojak

LAANK specialises in experiential design, and 'Lucky Rojak' is their attempt to educate the viewer on the various permutations of ingredients found in the local favourite.

Likening this gastronomic phenomenon to a 4D lottery, the exhibition playfully combines flavour and superstition to (hopefully) bring you a winning combination.

Novel Lemak

Grafunkt strives to deliver contemporary designs that combine creativity, functionality and quality in a retail environment that challenges, teases and inspires.

Inspired by the humble, pyramid-shaped packaging of Nasi Lemak, a significant part of this space is styled after banana leaves.

Restful Kuehs

Once mentored by legends Chris Lefteri and Reiko Kaneko, Melvin established his own studio – Desinere – in 2012.

Today, Maison et Objet Asia ranks him in their list of Rising Asian Talent. 'Restful Kuehs' is a lounge inspired by one of Singapore's most visually striking snacks.

Designs in Millenia Walk

7 Mar – 29 Apr

Embark on this curated journey, and explore the quirks in the architecture. Be inspired when you discover the design philosophies behind Millenia Walk.

Millenia Walk's Architecture

Designed by Pritzker Architectural Prize Lauraete architect Philip Johnson, Millenia Walk is designed to be comfortable and visually interesting to urban street shoppers, and is influenced by the interior spaces and bridges in the GUM Department Store in Moscow, Russia.

With our Design Week event in full swing, we thought it would be cool to take a look at the design of the Millenia Walk building itself.

Those of you who are more well-travelled might have noticed the striking similarity between Millenia Walk and the GUM Department Store in Moscow. There's a good reason for that – Philip Johnson is a great fan of the GUM, and he brought that vision all the way here to Singapore for us!

As mentioned, the inspiration for the interior was the souk with its dappled natural lighting. Philip Johnson manifested this idea through the 15 pyramids that line the central spine. Not only do they let in light from the outside, they provide a welcome splash of colour. If you stand at one end, you'll be able to see the progression of colours, so that there's never any repetition, but a gradual transition that adds a touch of visual dynamism.

This energy is integral to what Millenia Walk stands for. We want our open street to be a space for creativity, that balances function and form, where guests and business owners alike can feel free to express themselves.

We hope you liked this little bit of background into the design of Millenia Walk. Next time you drop by, do take some time to take a closer look. And you might discover little touches you have always missed before!
